Quetta Gladiators vs Peshawar Zalmi

Quetta Gladiators (Match Odds – 2.05):

Preview:

The Quetta Gladiators had a disastrous start to the tournament, being completely dominated by the Multan Sultans in their first game. However, in their most recent match, they made a strong comeback to defeat the Karachi Kings and earn their first points of the season.

Despite the victory, the Gladiators will need to improve in some areas in order to win their remaining games. With the exception of Martin Guptill, the top-order remains out of form. In the first over of the match against the Kings, both Jason Roy and Abdul Bangalzai were sent out for ducks.

The Gladiators were 4 wickets down with only 23 on the board at one point and appeared to be heading for another disaster. However, it took a special inning from Martin Guptill to ensure that the visitors reached a respectable score of 168 in their 20 overs.

During the chase, the bowlers were able to take wickets at regular intervals, preventing the Kings from forming large partnerships. Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Hasnain, on the other hand, have been quite costly in the two matches played so far, and they will be looking to bowl a better line and length here.

Naseem Shah has been in good form and will be looking to play a key role here, while the two all-rounders, Iftikhar Ahmed and Odean Smith, will be hoping to make a bigger impact.

Full Squad:

Jason Roy, Martin Guptill, Abdul Bangalzai, Umar Akmal, Sarfaraz Ahmed(w/c), Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Odean Smith, Qais Ahmad, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Hafeez, Umaid Asif, Saud Shakeel, Omair Yousuf, Will Smeed, Nuwan Thushara, Mohammad Zahid, Aimal Khan

Martin Guptill

Coming off a century in the previous game for the Gladiators, this attacking batsman led his team to a score of more than 160.

Naseem Shah

This Pakistan International pacer has the ability to take wickets early in an innings to give his team an advantage under the lights.

Iftikhar Ahmed

This versatile all-rounder scored crucial 32 runs off 27 balls in Match 6, and will look to finish the Gladiators’ batting innings against the rampant Peshawar Zalmi in Match 9 as well.

Possible Playing XI:

Martin Guptill, Will Smeed, Umar Akmal, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wk & c), Mohammad Hafeez, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Abdul Bangalzai, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Nuwan Thushara

Peshawar Zalmi (Match Odds – 1.77):

Preview:

The Peshawar Zalmi defeated the Karachi Kings in their first match of the season and were favoured to defeat the Sultans in their next match. However, they were completely outplayed by some fantastic batting from Rilee Rossouw and Mohammad Rizwan and were defeated by a large margin.

The first match’s top batsmen, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Babar Azam, were both dismissed for single-digit scores and will be looking to turn things around here. Mohammad Haris was solid at the top of the order, scoring a quick 40 but being run out just as he looked to play a big inning.

Saim Ayub also played well, scoring his first half-century of the season, albeit in defeat. Rovman Powell, who was brought in to replace Shakib Al Hasan, appears to be in good shape and has the potential to be a perfect finisher for Peshawar. The team will need to work hard in the bowling department, as they have given up 197 and 210 runs in their two matches thus far, putting a significant burden on the batsmen.

The seamers, including Wahab Riaz, Khurram Shahzad, and Salman Irshad, have economy rates of more than 9.50 runs per over, while the only full-time spinner, Sufiyan Muqeem, has only one wicket in two games.

Full Squad:

Mohammad Haris(w), Babar Azam(c), Saim Ayub, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Rovman Powell, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, James Neesham, Wahab Riaz, Khurram Shahzad, Sufiyan Muqeem, Salman Irshad, Usman Qadir, Shakib Al Hasan, Arshad Iqbal, Danish Aziz, Sherfane Rutherford, Haseebullah Khan, Aamer Jamal

Bowling picks from Peshawar Zalmi include Wahab Riaz, Salman Irshad, and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman. Given the flat nature of the aforementioned venue, Rahman and Irshad could make the most of their variations, particularly when bowling under the lights. Finally, Riaz is a seasoned campaigner who will almost certainly use short-pitched balls to test the Gladiators’ batting lineup in Match 9.
