Pakistan will be disappointed that they did not win the T20I series against New Zealand. They had their best team available but fell short. They can, however, make amends in the ODI series.

This is a very well-balanced unit with a lot of good options in both departments. Captain Babar Azam is expected to take the lead. He’s the man in form for Pakistan, having scored 647 runs at an average of 73 in his last ten matches, and will pose the most difficult challenge to the Kiwi bowlers in the series. It would not be surprising if he ends up with the most runs in the series.

Another batter to keep an eye on is Fakhar Zaman (375 runs in the last 10 matches at an average of 37.50). Mohammad Rizwan, who scored an unbeaten 98 off 62 balls in the final T20I, is expected to play in the ODIs as well.

Pakistan has a plethora of excellent bowling options for these pitches. Of course, Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the pace attack. However, it is young speedster Naseem Shah (18 wickets in his last five matches at an outstanding strike rate of 14.94) who could pose the most serious threat to the opposition. In the absence of regulars such as Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, and Mitchell Santner, the visitors will have to punch above their weight to make an impression.

Mark Chapman led the T20I run-scoring charts with 290 runs at an impressive strike rate of 165.71. He has been called up to the ODI squad and will be crucial in the middle order.
