Indian Premier League 2023: Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings – 12th Match Preview and Updates

The Mumbai Indians are set to host their archrivals after a three-year absence. The 12th IPL match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium on April 8th at 7:30 p.m. Mumbai Indians lost their first game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, while Chennai Super Kings have one win and one loss through two games. The fans will be ecstatic to see the two IPL titans, who have won 9 titles between them, return to Wankhede.

The Mumbai Indians played their first game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. MI batted first and scored 171 runs despite losing four wickets for 48 runs. Tilak Verma, last season’s find, batted 84 runs in 46 deliveries, hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes. However, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis added 148 runs for the first wicket to make the chase appear easy. Kohli (82) remained unbeaten as the game was won by 8 wickets. Arshad Khan and Cameroon Green each took one wicket. With the loss, Michigan maintained their record of losing the first game of the season since 2013.

After losing the first game to the Gujarat Titans, CSK came back strong against the Lucknow Super Giants. Ruturaj Gaikwad hit his second half-century (57), with Devon Conway (47), Shivam Dubey (27), Ambati Rayudu (27) and fan favorite MS Dhoni making brief appearances (12 off 3). CSK, who were defending 218, were given a scare early on when Kyle Myres scored at 240.91. With four wickets, Moeen Ali turned the tables on the Yellow Army. CSK won by a score of 12 runs.

MI has a slight advantage over CSK in recent games, with three wins in five. All of my victories have come while chasing the target. MI bowled out CSK for 97 in their most recent meeting. Tilak Verma and Tim David hit the winning run in the 15th over of the game. This was MI’s retaliation for CSK’s last-ball victory last season, when they were chasing 155. Suryakumar Yadav scored 102 runs in the last two games against CSK at Wankhede Stadium.

The 12th Match between Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings will take place on April 8th, 2023 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians (Match Odds – 1.90):

Preview:

Though a home game is nothing new for Mumbai fans, there will be some difficult battles to overcome this time. MI is already in pain as a result of his injuries. Bumrah was the first, followed by Jhye Richrdson. MI couldn’t find a replacement for Bumrah until the last minute. However, Sandeep Warrior was finally announced to take the role. Similarly, MI finally signed Riley Meredith as a replacement for Richardson after a game. Meredith was the Big Bash League’s joint fifth-highest wicket-taker this season. In 14 games, he took 21 wickets. Meredith appeared in eight games for MI last season, taking eight wickets at an economy of 8.42. He can be of great assistance to Jofra Archer. MI used an international impact player in the first game, but it forced them to use only three foreign players in the first innings. As Dewald Brewis and Tristan Stubbs await in the dugout, hopefully they will abandon this strategy.

MI’s batting order is extremely potent. Unless Sharma takes Dhoni’s role in the middle order and sends Dewald Bewis to open the innings, Kishan and Sharma will open the innings for MI. Tilak Verma smashed 84 runs in 46 deliveries in the first game. In the second game, he will be our batter to watch. Last season, the left-hander led the team in run scoring. Suryakumar Yadav has a strong record against CSK at Wankhede Stadium. In two games against the visitors, Surya has scored 102 runs.

In the middle of the order, Tim David will be the preferred power hitter. David has a strike rate of more than 160 in various T20 leagues around the world. MI’s main issue is a lack of experienced all-rounders. They faced Hritik Shoukeen in the first game, which did not go well for them. Shams Mulani, who has a strong Ranji record for Mumbai, can fill in for Shoukeen.

Full Squad:

Rohit Sharma (c), Tim David, Ramandeep Singh, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis, Jofra Archer, Arjun Tendulkar, Arshad Khan, Kumar Kartikeya, Hrithik Shokeen, Jason Behrendorff, Akash Madhwal, Cameron Green, Piyush Chawla, Duan Jansen, Vishnu Vinod, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, Raghav Goyal

Players to watch out for:

Rohit Sharma

The skipper scored one run off ten balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore, but he has an impressive IPL record of 5880 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav

The Mumbai Indians’ first game saw the fluent upper-middle order batter score only 15 runs off 14 balls. He is, however, one of the most lethal T20 batters in the world.

Jofra Archer

Although the England fast bowler went wicketless on Sunday, he has a strong IPL record and will relish the opportunity to bowl on this surface.

Possible Playing XI:

Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Shams Mulani, Piyush Chawla, Jofra Archer, Arshad Khan

Chennai Super Kings (Match Odds – 2.00):

Preview:

Chennai will kick things off with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway. Ruturaj currently holds the orange cap with 149 runs (2 half-centuries). Conway also demonstrated his talent in the second game, scoring 47 runs. The pair had a 110-run partnership. MI will have a difficult time dealing with the pair. CSK is known for making arbitrary changes to the number three position. In the second game, sending Shivam Dubey at number three proved correct, as he hit 27 off 16 balls to keep the run rate going. They may send Ambati Raidu against MI, who has a strong record against his former team.

The middle order of CSK is stacked with world-class T20 all-rounders. Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, and Ravindra Jadeja will be crucial in helping CSK reach the playoffs. Moeen Ali bowled four wickets against LSG. His wickets swung the game in Chennai’s favor. He also has a fifty against the Mumbai Indians. Along with Ruturaj, he will be the batter to watch.

CSK’s bowling unit is clearly inadequate. Deepak Chahar is still battling after suffering a career-ending injury. Rajvardhan Hangrgekar had four wickets in the first game but struggled with the ball in the second. Worse, CSK’s impact player, Tushar Deshpande, has given up more than 10 runs in two games. CSK spinners can make life difficult for MI with the turning Wankhede pitch.

Full Squad:

MS Dhoni (c), Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Subhranshu Senapati, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Dwaine Pretorius, Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, Tushar Deshpande, Mukesh Chowdhary, Matheesha Pathirana, Simarjeet Singh, Deepak Chahar, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana, Ajinkya Rahane, Ben Stokes, Shaik Rasheed, Nishant Sindhu, Sisanda Magala, Ajay Mandal, Bhagath Varma

With an average of 74.50 and a strike-rate of 183.95 in the IPL 2023 so far, the opener will be confident going into this game.

Possible Playing XI:

Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Shivam Dube, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, RS Hangargekar

Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings Pitch Report

The 12th T20 of the IPL 2023 will be played on April 8th at 7:30 p.m. at the Wankhede Stadium. The venue has a capacity of 33000 spectators and has previously hosted 27 Tests, 28 ODIs, and 9 T20Is. On this ground, India has the highest total of 240. Wankhede Stadium’s pitch is typically hard and dry, providing good bounce and carry to the ball. This is especially useful for spinners, who can use the pitch’s natural variations to get turn and bounce. The pitch, however, slows down as the game progresses, making it slightly easier for the batsmen to score runs.
