New Zealand Tour of India 2023: India vs New Zealand – 2nd T20I Preview and Updates

In 2023 ODI cricket, India has been nearly unstoppable. They won the first leg of the series 3-0 against New Zealand, but we believe the T20 series will be much closer. In this match, India has chosen a younger and less experienced squad than their ODI squad. In addition, New Zealand has some very dangerous players in their lineup who can spring a surprise.

On Friday, all of India’s pace bowlers were too expensive, and this is an area they will look to improve in this match. In any format, they rarely lose two games in a row, and we expect India to bounce back in this game.

New Zealand will be confident going into this game after their bowlers produced some excellent figures in the first game of the series. However, the match against India will be even more difficult.

The 2nd T20I between India vs New Zealand will take place on January 29th, 2023 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

India vs New Zealand

India (Match Odds – 1.50):

Preview:

India’s T20 squad has been altered slightly from the one that faced Sri Lanka. The most noticeable change is Prithvi Shaw’s return to the lineup. He has been scoring runs at an incredible rate in domestic cricket and provides India with the out-and-out smasher they need at the start.

He may have to wait his turn, as Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill could kick off the series. Gill has already scored 567 runs in ODI cricket in 2023, but his T20 scores against Sri Lanka were not stellar. Nonetheless, confidence from one format can transfer to another.

Rahul Tripathi at 3 and Suryakumar Yadav at 4 appear to be the way India will go. The batting order will be completed by Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda, and Washington Sundar. With Axar Patel out, India’s batting lineup appears to be lacking, which could cost them the game.

The bowling lineup is likely to include Shivam Mavi, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, and one of Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal. India has Mukesh Singh in their squad for this series, but he may have to wait for a game.

The power at the top, Hardik’s return as a genuine all-rounder, and India’s aggressive approach are all major positives for the country. The negatives include a lack of batting depth and a bowling lineup that is slightly inexperienced.

Full Squad:

Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan(w), Rahul Tripathi, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya(c), Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Shivam Mavi, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jitesh Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Prithvi Shaw

Players to watch out for:

Suryakumar Yadav

It appears that Yadav will be the top scorer in this format before the end of the first month of the year. He will try to make a significant score in this match.

Washington Sundar

The all-rounder has struggled to break into India’s side across all formats, but he put in an excellent performance in Ranchi. He had the highest batting average and took the most wickets for his team.

Arshdeep Singh

The left-arm swing bowler appears to struggle with no-balls. Despite being less consistent than he was earlier in his international career, he dismissed Devon Conway on Friday.

Possible Playing XI:

Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (c), Washington Sundar, Deepak Hooda, Shivam Mavi, Umran Malik, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh

New Zealand (Match Odds – 2.60):

Preview:

After a 3-0 loss to India, New Zealand lost its number one ranking in one-day internationals. Winning the T20 series will not be easy, but we believe New Zealand has a better chance of competing. They have a number of all-rounders who provide tremendous batting depth and allow New Zealand to play aggressively without fear.

Mark Chapman, Michael Bracewell, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, and Glenn Phillips all play multiple roles for the team, giving it great versatility. We don’t like the reliance on Devon Conway and Finn Allen for runs, but that’s where the batting lineup’s depth comes in.

The bowling unit is weakened by the absence of Tim Southee and Trent Boult, but Lockie Ferguson is a formidable opponent in this format. Ish Sodhi and Mitch Santner will play key roles, with Blair Tickner and possibly Jacob Duffy rounding out the rest of the lineup.

We would not take New Zealand’s lineup lightly.

Full Squad:

Finn Allen, Devon Conway(w), Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner(c), Lockie Ferguson, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, Jacob Duffy, Michael Rippon, Dane Cleaver, Henry Shipley, Ben Lister

Players to watch out for:

Devon Conway

The 31-year-old keeper batter, has been enjoying himself in India over the last few days. On this tour, he has hit 190 runs in his last two innings.

Daryl Mitchell

The batting all-rounder had a very strong 2022 and led the way for New Zealand with his fourth T20I half-century in Ranchi.

Lockie Ferguson

The right-arm quick bowler took two late wickets but proved his worth. No other player on the New Zealand team can bowl as fast as him.

Possible Playing XI:

Finn Allen, Devon Conway (wk), Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, Lockie Ferguson, Jacob Duffy

India vs New Zealand Top Team Batsmen

Our batting options for India are Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav. Gill and Kishan both scored single digits at the top of the order on Friday, but they have both scored international double centuries in their last five innings. Yadav hit eight home runs in another strong inning in Ranchi.

Devon Conway, Finn Allen, and Daryl Mitchell are our batting choices for New Zealand. Allen scored 35 runs off 23 balls at the top of the order in the first game and will look to carry the attack to the bowlers once more in this match. After his last two innings, Conway’s confidence will be the highest of any player on the team.

India vs New Zealand Top Team Bowlers

Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Mavi, and Washington Sundar are our bowling picks for India. Sundar took the wickets of Finn Allen and Mark Chapman, two of New Zealand’s top three batsmen, in the first T20I. Mavi’s dismissal of Mitchell Santner ended a two-game run without a wicket in this format.

Our bowling selections for New Zealand are Lockie Ferguson, Jacob Duffy, and Mitchell Santner. Santner’s figures as skipper in Ranchi were 2-11 from four overs. On this tour, Duffy has four wickets in two games, one ODI and one T20I.

India vs New Zealand Head to Head

New Zealand’s victory on Friday reduced the overall head-to-head to 12-10. New Zealand needed this win because they hadn’t beaten India in this format since the group stage of the 2021 T20 World Cup.
