India won the first game 349-8, but New Zealand gave it their all in the chase. They were still in the game when the 50th over began before being dismissed for 337. India rotated some of their players in the first game but still managed to win a tough match. We expect them to play even better in this match and find it difficult to see how they will lose.

After trailing 131-6 in the 29th over, New Zealand demonstrated incredible fighting spirit to take the game to the final over. The Black Caps never give up, but winning this game will be difficult.

India’s batting lineup has been its strength, and the team has crossed 350 the last four times it has batted first. There is a clear attempt to bat aggressively throughout the inning, as England has done so successfully in recent years.

Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli are the two obvious batters in excellent form, having scored centuries in the majority of their recent matches. These are the players you should back in this match as well. We also believe Rohit Sharma’s six-hitting streak should be capitalised on.

We would avoid SKY and Ishan Kishan because SKY has yet to crack the ODI batting and Ishan Kishan is batting out of position.

Mohammad Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav have been the standout bowlers this season. They almost always appear to pick up wickets and attack the batters. Depending on the circumstances, some of the bowling units may be rotated.

Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar both played the previous match, possibly to lengthen the batting lineup, but we’d like to see Umran Malik return as well.

The number three batter was dismissed in the first ODI by left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner. He is, however, already planning his third ODI century for 2023.

The 23-year-old opener looks set to open India’s batting in the World Cup later this year. He made 208 against New Zealand on Wednesday after hitting 116 against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Mohammed Siraj

The quick bowler is having the best season of his career right now. In his last three One-Day Internationals, he has taken 11 wickets.

That is precisely what New Zealand needs to do. It must take the game to India, or else it will be eaten alive in unfavourable conditions. In the previous match, New Zealand’s bowling lineup was not the most effective. Lockie Ferguson and Henry Shipley struggled to make an impression, and Blair Tickner was also costly.

Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell were the bowlers of choice, both of whom used the conditions to slow down the scoring rate. Santner has a favourable matchup against Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, so expect him to come on to bowl whenever these two are at the crease.

Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, and Daryl Mitchell all provide New Zealand with a lot of versatility and make the team very dangerous. We don’t believe New Zealand has any obvious flaws, other than the fact that it is currently competing against a behemoth at home.
