World champions England have struggled in the format recently, losing three of their last four ODI series. Jos Buttler will now captain the team on their limited-overs tour of Bangladesh, which kicks off on March 1st at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. England will be missing a few key players, but they will be confident of their chances given their excellent ODI record against the hosts. This series will also give them one last chance to practise in subcontinent conditions before the ODI World Cup in India later this year.

Bangladesh is a force to be reckoned with in all formats at home. They have won their last seven home One-Day International (ODI) series, including one against India in December of last year. Given their opponent’s recent ODI form, the Tigers will undoubtedly believe they can defeat the world champions in their own backyard.

Tamim Iqbal has returned to the team after missing the series against India due to injury. The seasoned opener is Bangladesh’s most prolific batter, having scored over 8000 runs in ODIs at a strike rate of 37. He is also Bangladesh’s leading ODI run-scorer against England, with 488 runs in 14 innings at an average of 34.85. Litton Das is Bangladesh’s best player. In 2022, he scored 577 runs at an average of 52.45 in 13 ODIs.

Shakib Al Hasan, the all-rounder, will be an important part of this team again, both with the bat and with the ball, and his form will be critical for the team’s chances in this series. Mushfiqur Rahim averages 44 in 50-over cricket against England, with 485 runs in 12 games.

Bangladesh will rely on the vastly improved Taskin Ahmed and the ever-dependable Mustafizur Rahman to take the wickets up front. Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s off-breaks, along with Shakib’s guile, will be useful on this surface during the middle overs.

Tamim Iqbal

The Bangladeshi captain has a wealth of experience and is by far one of the most consistent batsmen in Bangladesh cricket history. He averaged 48.5 in his last 10 ODI innings, owing to his aggressive style of play at the top of the order. Furthermore, he has the highest score of 158 and a healthy strike rate of just under 80, making him one of the most confident batsmen to face as a bowler.

Liton Das

Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper batsman is in the best shape of his life. In just one year, he ran over 400 times at an average of over 48. Das is a force to be reckoned with, with a lethal strike rate of over 85 and 5 ODI centuries already to his name.

Mehidy Hasan

The 25-year-old began his career as a lower-order spin bowling all-rounder in 2016, but has since matured into a fully matured cricketer. He has a knack for taking wickets and has already amassed five four-wicket hauls. He has also bailed his team out of trouble with the bat on numerous occasions. His heroics with the bat at the bottom of the order against India helped Bangladesh easily win the series.

England has lost eight of their last eleven One-Day Internationals (ODIs). They’re missing a lot of their format regulars for this series. Because of their PSL commitments, Sam Billings, Alex Hales, and Liam Dawson have opted out of the tour. Meanwhile, Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone are out with injuries. The world champions, on the other hand, have plenty of depth in their squad.

The tourists’ key player will be captain Jos Buttler, who has 382 runs in his last nine matches at an average of 54.57. He’s in great shape and will enjoy batting on these pitches. Another batter to keep an eye on is Dawid Malan (325 runs in the last six matches at an average of 54.16). Jason Roy is dangerous, and if he gets going on this pitch, he will quickly take the game away.

Keep an eye out for Phil Salt as well. The daring young batsman has had an exciting start to his career, averaging 45 in ODIs with a strike rate of 132.24.

The series will also put Jofra Archer to the test. The fast bowler recently returned to cricket after a lengthy injury layoff and recorded career-best figures of 6-40 against South Africa on February 1st in Kimberley. Jos Buttler

Buttler has a fantastic batting average of over 70 in the last calendar year. He had some very high-scoring knocks in last year’s T20 World Cup in Australia, which helped them win. Furthermore, despite his team losing badly to the Proteas, he emerged as the highest run scorer in the England tour of South Africa 2023 ODI series and was named player of the series.

Dawid Malan

Malan has emerged as one of England’s most dependable batters in modern cricket. His ODI batting figures are nothing short of spectacular, with a career-high 134 and a lethal batting average and strike rate of 53 and 97, respectively. When he gets going, the bowlers usually have a difficult time stopping him.

Jason Roy

Roy has been one of the Pomps’ leading run scorers in the last year. In only 14 innings, he has scored 458 runs at a healthy average of 35.23. He hits the ball well, as his strike rate in both T20I and ODI cricket is well above 100. So far, he has a career-best score of 180, 11 ODI centuries, and a batting average of just under 40. With such numbers, bowlers who want to face him will almost certainly go the distance if they don’t get it right early on.
