Cricket, as we all know, is a game of skill, temperament, technique, and character. To get out of difficult situations, you must have tremendous mental toughness. Having a large physique or height is not considered a strength in cricket, as we have seen players who did not have the size or height but went on to make a significant impact on World Cricket as legends of the game.

However, due to their height, some cricketers have gained a significant advantage over their opponents. This list includes the top ten tallest cricketers of all time.

The majority of the players on our list are bowlers. These bowlers used their height to their advantage and were successful enough to take wickets. Because of the uneven bounce and speed of their deliveries, the opposing batters were caught off guard and made mistakes.

10) Boyd Rankin (Ireland & England) – 6’8″ (204 cm)

Rankin was a key member of Ireland’s bowling attack. He also represented England in Test cricket, making him only the third player to do so. The pacer made his England debut against New Zealand in 2013.

9) Chris Tremlett (England) – 6’7″ (201 cm)

Tremlett’s speed and bounce had the ability to unsettle batsmen even on flat batting wickets. The pacer would have had a lot more success if it hadn’t been for his back and knee injuries. His grandfather was a Test cricketer for England, and his father played county cricket.

Tremlett nearly took a hat trick in his first ODI, but the bails did not fall. He had to retire early due to injuries and began weightlifting after leaving the game. In his career, he only played 12 Tests and 15 ODIs.

8) Steve Finn (England) – 6’7″ (201 cm)

Finn was another exciting English pacer who, if not for his injuries, could have been among the best modern-day fast bowlers. Despite playing more games than his countymate Tremlett, Finn’s form was hampered by injuries that forced him to sit out.

7) Bruce Reid (Australia) – 6’8″ (203cm)

Another speedster whose career was cut short by injuries. Bruce Reid had the ability to swing the ball both ways, and his uneven bounce was difficult to handle even for a well-set batsman. Reid could have dominated World Cricket if he hadn’t been injured. Reid was the first Australian bowler to record a hat-trick in limited overs cricket.

Reid had to retire at the age of 29 after playing 27 tests and 61 One-Day Internationals. During the Indian team’s 2003-04 Australian tour, the tall left-armer served as bowling coach. He also coached the Hampshire team and the Zimbabwean national team.

6) Peter George (Australia) – 6’8″ (203 cm)

Despite his height, pace, speed, and bounce, George was only able to play one Test match against India in Bangalore in 2010. His only Test wicket was that of Sachin Tendulkar, whom he dismissed in that game.

The 32-year-old pacer currently plays for South Australia. Because of his height, George is capable of bowling the hard length.

Cameron Cuffy was another promising pacer whose career was cut short by injuries that hampered his form. The Caribbean pacer played domestic cricket for Windward Islands and English County Championships for Surrey. He possessed the rare ability to abstract bounce on both slow-turning and flat batting wickets. Cuffy’s height and reach enabled him to get that extra bounce, but as previously stated, injuries cut his career short.

He could play 15 Tests and 41 One-Day Internationals for the West Indies. He held the rare distinction of being named man of the match in an ODI despite not taking any wickets or scoring any runs against Pakistan. He allowed 20 runs in 10 overs, assisting his team in defending the target. He has also three times taken the wicket of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

4) Kyle Jamieson (New Zealand) – 6’8″ (203 cm)

Because of his height, Jamieson drew attention on his debut against India in the home series in January 2020. He set a rare record in his debut against India by being named “Player of the Game” in his first ODI. Here are some exciting debutant Test records.

Jamison’s high-arm bowling motion, combined with his height, enables him to achieve that extra bounce. Because of his height, the 27-year-old can be a significant threat if he plays to his strengths.

3) Curtly Ambrose (West Indies) – 6’7″ (202 cm)

Curt Ambrose wore a bit of flamboyance on his sleeves, which showed in his bowling. The legendary pacer was one of the tallest bowlers in the 1990s, and he and his partner, Courtney Walsh, were a nightmare for the opposition. On their day, the duo annihilated the best batting lineups.

Ambrose’s bowling had good pace, bounce, and length. The angle at which he delivered the ball caused issues for the batters.

In one of the Test matches against Australia in 1993, the pacer took seven wickets and allowed only one run. In 2011, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

2) Joel Garner (West Indies) – 6’8″ (203 cm)

Garner was a nightmare for the opposition during West Indies’ golden era in the 1970s and 1980s, as he had the height to generate pace and bounce.

His ability to hit the deck hard astounded the batsmen. The pacer bowled some quick yorkers that were nearly impossible to play. Garner was able to easily release the ball from his hands, but his deliveries were quick enough to unsettle even the most seasoned batsman.

His enormous height and high arm action allowed him to generate speed and bounce. The Barbadian delivered some deft seam-up deliveries.

Mohammad Irfan, the world’s tallest cricketer, could bowl some quick bouncers. Because of his height, his length always gave batsmen pause. Irfan’s career was also cut short due to injuries, as he only played 60 ODIs, 4 Tests, and 20 T20Is.

During his cricketing career, opposition teams were subjected to throw-downs from teammates who stood on the stool to become acquainted with his deliveries. The fast bowler has been dubbed the “Burj Khalifa” of Pakistan.
